Mackenzie Hughes makes his second cut of the season

After posting an opening round 74, Mackenzie Hughes charged back today with a second round 69.  Hughe’s round today included 5 birdies and 2 bogeys, and the highlight of his day came on 17 where he drained a 39-foot bomb for birdie. Hughes has struggled this season with his only other made cut coming at The Honda Classic.

Driving has been Hughe’s shortcoming this season as he has only hit 175 out of a possible 333. However, Hughe’s putting has carried him this week, as he sits at 12th in the field for strokes gained putting at 2.958

Nick Taylor the other Canadian in the field missed the cut by one shot finishing at two over par.

Hughes tees off tomorrow at 10:13, and is paired with American Jimmy Walker.

How Mackenzie Hughes and Nick Taylor qualified for the Arnold Palmer Invitational field

Nick Taylor and Mackenzie Hughes are both apart of the 120 man field in the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week.

Hughes has qualified for the field for being apart of the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings, last season. Hughes was apart of the field in last seasons tournament but failed to make the cut

Taylor, on the other hand, gains his entry to the invitational by being just outside the top 70 on the current FedEx Cup standings, gaining his entrance as other players get in the top 70 got in through other exemptions.

Thornhill native Ben Silverman is currently listed as an alternate for the tournament.

Australian Marc Leishman won last years tournament, finishing at -11.
